Christie’s Geneva Magnificent Jewels auction at the Hotel des Bergues delivered remarkable results on Wednesday, achieving a total of $72.3 million with every lot sold—a rare feat in international jewelry auctions.
The sale featured 115 lots, with 77 surpassing their high estimates, highlighting the strong demand for exceptional gems.
The auction’s highlight was a stunning 6.24-carat fancy deep blue diamond ring, which fetched over $12.7 million after five minutes of intense bidding.
This potentially flawless stone, graded VVS2 clarity, sold for more than $2 million per carat, setting a new auction record for a deep blue diamond.
The buyer was Moussaieff Jewellers, the prestigious London-based family-owned jeweler renowned for acquiring rare and exceptional gems. Their clientele includes Middle Eastern royalty, politicians, international celebrities, and affluent collectors.
Moussaieff is famously associated with extraordinary acquisitions such as the 6.04-carat flawless Moussaieff Blue Diamond and the 5.11-carat Moussaieff Red Diamond, the largest known red diamond in the world.
Alisa Moussaieff, co-founder of the firm alongside her late husband Shlomo Moussaieff, expressed pride in adding this remarkable blue diamond to their private collection.
“We are delighted to have purchased the most exceptional blue diamond to come to market in recent times,” she said. “Its record-breaking price reflects its rarity and beauty, ensuring its enduring value.”
This sale further cements Christie’s reputation for hosting landmark jewelry auctions and underscores the sustained global appetite for rare and exquisite gemstones.
