As spring breathes new life into Calgary, jewelry designer Kelsey Merkeley finds herself basking in international recognition while championing the cause of women and girls globally.
Merkeley’s latest endeavor involves donating 25 percent of proceeds from sales of her heart-shaped pendant to Days for Girls, an international charity dedicated to supporting women and girls grappling with menstruation-related stigmatization.
“Days for Girls offers education initiatives and period kits to women in need in many African and Middle Eastern countries, where menstruation stigmatization is prevalent,” Merkeley explained. “It’s crucial to destigmatize menstruation and recognize it as a natural and beautiful aspect of womanhood.”
In addition to helming her jewelry company, NVR NUDE, Merkeley shares her expertise as an instructor at the Alberta University of the Arts (AUArts). While showcasing her craft to AUArts students, Merkeley seized the opportunity to share recent accolades garnered from international magazines.
Proudly displaying her designs featured in prominent publications, Merkeley highlighted her commitment to sustainability, including her use of recycled gold. Her students were duly impressed by the international exposure and commended her achievements.
